Editor's Review:

Dada is a run-of-the-mill web site that gives you access to a library of ringtones that can be downloaded to your mobile phone. Although Dada markets itself as a seller of mobile ringtones, it really sells MP3s of the tunes you download. These will work fine as ringtones on most mobile phones, but older devices might not know what to do with them. Dada also offers streaming MP3s and radio through its web site as part of the subscription fee.

Although we have already described Dada as a bit run-of-the-mill, we have to admit its web site design isn't too bad and we have seen worse. The site is pretty sparsely laid out, which makes it easy to navigate and, given that Dada only sells MP3 ringtones, there isn't really much of a site to browse through. It's easy to find tracks by your favourite artist as each artist has a page listing their albums and singles available. Artists are organised into a selection of sensible genres which are all browsable too. There's not much to go wrong with a simple site like this, but we did feel like it was only half finished.

Dada works on a subscription based model whereby you pay a set fee each month for a set number of downloads. It's a reasonable enough deal and we like the fact things are kept simple, just make sure to use all your downloads in a month as they don't carry over. Everything is paid for from your mobile phone bill so it can be easy to forget to cancel the subscription when you are finished with Dada, but it is handy not to need a credit card.

As we have mentioned Dada is really just a site selling MP3s, but this is no bad thing if you have a phone that supports using MP3s as ringtones – which most modern ones do. Downloads are DRM free so you can transfer them over to as many devices as you like as long as it's for your own use. The downside of only selling music MP3s though, is that there are no sound effects (for things like text message notifications) available for download. You won't find any games or apps at Dada either so do make sure you are happy spending your whole download allowance on music.

We weren't too impressed by Dada. Although most things work fine it feels hastily thrown together and we wouldn't want to make too many guesses about how long it might be around. For a mobile content download site it doesn't have enough mobile content and as an MP3 download site it doesn't have a big enough collection. That said, if Dada has the tracks you want available you probably won't be paying any more for them here than you would at iTunes or any of the other online stores. By all means give Dada a look, but check out the rest of our top ten for some sites with a bigger range of mobile content.
